They say, "Less is more." And when it comes to the 'no expenses spared'
minimalist resort – The Library – and its integral restaurant – The Page – this
is certainly true.
Smart white buildings, verdant green lawns with cute white reading figures and
a beautiful 20x12-metre red swimming pool all play their parts in creating a
stylish, classy-yet-relaxed environment at The Library. And The Page restaurant
sits proudly on an expansive beachfront overlooking Chaweng Beach and the
Gulf of Thailand.
Choose to sit either in the comfortable white and copper luxury interior (there
are air-conditioned and open-air sections) of the attractive restaurant building
itself where there's also a large lounge and bar area, or take advantage of the
unique location properly and have a table on the huge terrace which spans the
entire beach frontage.
What with the table-candle-lamps, floodlit old trees and the lights from the
hotel's library sending its illumination across the swimming pool, there's plenty
of light to see what you're eating without feeling you're in the spotlight yourself.
Although the style of The Library is definitely minimal, you'll be pleased to hear
that the food portions are plentiful. And, not only that, they're also absolutely
delicious. The Page specialises in both Thai and international cuisine (with
separate menus for breakfast and lunch).
The exciting new Thai menu is totally unique on Koh Samui, in that it
presents a wide range of 40 rare old-Kingdom recipes that are seldom seen in
contemporary restaurants. And the best way to enjoy them is to order several
dishes at once, as the various tastes of each dish complement the others. An
8-course Thai tasting set called "Samrab Thai" is available to help you do this,
or you can choose items from the à la carte menu yourself, and these include
some amazing dishes, such as the popular starters, Khanom Bueang Goong
(crab crepe bites with seasoned coconut and shrimp) and Yum Nua Yang Krati
Sod (grilled beef salad marinated in coconut), and the main course Hor Mok
Pla Insee Nua Poo (steamed pudding with grilled crab meat and mackerel in
red curry).
The international menu has some mouth-watering dishes too, the most popular
(for very good reasons!) being the starter, Warmed Scallop Carpaccio with
mixed sautéed mushroom and lemon beurre blanc, and the main course,
Tenderloin of Wagyu Beef MBS 9+ with green pepper crust, crisp pancetta,
mushroom emulsion, black pepper sauce, red wine gravy and porcini
mushroom sauce.
And there's more than just ice creams for dessert in this restaurant. The Thai
favourite Coconut and Young Rice Fritters with Pandan Pudding is highly
recommended, as is the super-tasty Tangy Lemon Tart.
Wine aficionados are well catered for as well with a fine selection of New and
Old World wines just there for your choosing in the restaurant's wine gallery.
It all sounds more maximalist than minimalist with what's on offer here, doesn't it?
If ever there was a page that needed bookmarking, then this is it. Because The

the next chapter, too.
